JOIN US AT THREADS OF PEACE- RSVP

Join World BEYOND War and Fashioning for Social Environmental Justice on Saturday, May 24 at 1:00 PM for the powerful display of the Global Peace Flag at The Ellipse, in front of the White House.

At the intersection of fashion, environmental justice, and peace building, the Global Peace Flag transforms fashion waste into symbols of hope, unity, and resistance to conflict.

Endorsed by the United Nations, this initiative unites 195 countries through repurposed fabrics that once contributed to fashion’s burden on the planet. In doing so, we have already diverted tons of textile waste from landfills and saved billions of liters of water.

Much of the fashion industry's waste stems from discarded muslin prototypes and test garments, before creating before the final piece. These prototypes are typically discarded, contributing to textile waste and water overuse.

These practices, though hidden from public view, exert massive pressure on land and consume vast amounts of water. As the climate crisis intensifies, clean drinking water becomes increasingly scarce. This scarcity—especially across shared water resources and transboundary rivers in developing nations—can escalate tensions and potentially lead to geopolitical conflict.

We’ve diverted this waste by transforming muslin prototypes into blank canvases, inviting individuals around the world to write or paint their personal messages of peace. These canvases are then sewn together to form massive peace flags.

The Global Peace Flag stands as a creative, global response to this crisis—where fashion becomes a voice for peace. Through exhibitions, public engagement, and global storytelling, we’re showing that fashion can not only raise awareness but also prevent conflict by advocating for sustainability, equity, and unity.

This Memorial Day weekend, join us for a fashion show, exhibit, and speeches from global changemakers and peace advocates

Let fashion be the fabric that weaves peace across nations.
